The Alphabet of names is an icebreaker with elements of a group dynamics game. It is especially appropriate if the group members do not know each other.
Equipment
No equipment is required, but seating accommodations are a great convenience.
Procedure
The players call out their names, loud enough for everybody to hear. Only then the following task will be announced:
Sit down in a row in alphabetical order. Do so without speaking.
Whilst the task is easier to solve for older participants, groups with younger members should be given some support. The game may be repeated again after some while.
Variations
Apart from ordering alphabetically, also other tasks are easily conceivable in order to get to know the other group members better. The group may be sorted by date of birth, surname, place of birth, place of residence, etc.
